brainstorming

Here are the results of a brainstorming session with Ryan Rosales, technical coordinator and lighting designer for “Show Me The Money.”

Asylum, trapped, creating confidence about an idea until it becomes real. a stock projection, realized because of the energy surrounding it. the space feels like a submarine. airless, lightless room. why change it?
It’s stuck in time, almos ghostlike, “gothic.” Oppressive, disconnected from reality. Industrial.

first day in the vault

Posted in Musings on July 13, 2009 by katgalasso

Today is the first day of my Swing Space residency with the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council.  I am in the “Lower Vault” of a former bank located at 14 wall street, directly across from the New York Stock Exchange.  The building is now owned by Capstone Equities, who donated this space to the LMCC.  It’s a strange space, in a strange neighborhood.

The first thing I want to do is write.  I took Tere O’Connor’s workshop at Movement Research last week, and I learned that writing is key.  In order to keep track of my goals, my list of things to do, and most importantly: my moods.  My feelings about a work shift dramatically through the process, and each new project feels like the first time.  These emotions feel unpredictable.  But perhaps if I try to keep track, I can locate some patterns… and eventually learn how to include them in my process instead of rejecting them.

Below are some pictures that I took in the vault when I visited the space with Ryan Rosales, my lighting technician friend and partner in crime for the show that I’m creating here.
